VOLHARDING I en de thuiskomst van ss ROTTERDAM
De in 1929 gebouwde stoomsleepboot van het "Zeeland"-type werd op 2 januari 1930 in Dordrecht ingeschreven als HARMONIE Vl. Tussen 1930 en 1940 voer de HARMONIE Vl voornamelijk tussen Dordrecht - Vreeswijk en het Ruhrgebied in de opvaart; de dalvaart via het Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal naar de Hoogovens in Velsen. In 1951 werd de boot aangekocht door NV Vereenigde Onafhankelijke Sleepdienst (VOS) te Rotterdam. Na enkele aanpassingen voor havensleepwerk, in de vaart gekomen als VOLHARDING I. Van 1953 tot 1955 is de boot actief geweest bij het dijkherstel in Zeeland. In 1967 was de VOLHARDING I als één van de allerlaatste op kolen gestookte havensleepboten uit de Rotterdamse haven opgelegd voor de sloop. Voor fl.1,- is zij aangekocht door het Maritiem Museum Prins Hendrik te Rotterdam. Tussen 1969 en 1971 volledig gerestaureerd bij de werf Van der Giessen-de Noord te Alblasserdam. Sinds 1978 is de boot in beheer bij de Vereniging Volharding I, die het schip met onbetaalde vrijwilligers in originele staat bedrijfsvaardig houdt. Het vaartuig maakt tegenwoordig deel uit van de collectie van Het Havenmuseum te Rotterdam. Na zo'n 25 jaar als museumschip waren opnieuw grondige restauratiewerkzaamheden noodzakelijk. Hierbij werd oa de triple expansiemachine met Hackworth schuifbeweging uitgetakeld en compleet overhaald, in 2004 is deze terug geplaatst. In 2007 volgden werkzaamheden aan de ketel, waarbij de vuurgang geheel vervangen werd. Eind 2007 kwam de boot weer in de vaart. Op 4 ...
